What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic care is drug-free, patient-centered, non-invasive, hands-on healthcare in which a licensed chiropractor treats the musculoskeletal system and spine by performing adjustments to manipulate and re-align joints. A main belief in chiropractic is that the body has the ability to heal itself if given the proper support.

CHIROPRACTIC FAQS

Is a chiropractor a real doctor?

Yes! After earning an undergraduate degree, chiropractic students go to school for an additional 10 trimesters which is equivalent to medical school. They must pass rigorous licensing exams and state exams. In order to maintain their license doctors of chiropractic must complete continuing education credits every year.

How long is the initial visit?

The first visit includes a detailed health history, exam, and adjustment. You will be given a treatment plan and a recommended treatment schedule. This takes about one hour. Subsequent visits usually last about 10 minutes.

Once I start going to the chiropractor do I have to keep going?

No! We recommend a plan to get you out of pain and correct the problem. Once we achieve that YOU determine if/when you want to come back. We never make anyone come back repeatedly. Many of our patients choose to come on a maintenance schedule just because they feel better if they do.

What is an “adjustment”?

An adjustment is a treatment used to restore normal joint motion to a joint using a quick thrusting motion. Sometimes you will hear a ‘popping’ sound. Some adjusting techniques we use do not cause the joint popping and some patients ask to not be adjusted that way because they don’t care for it. We will work the patient and use a technique they are comfortable with.

Will the adjustments hurt?

Sometimes myofascial work can be uncomfortable but many patients say it “hurts good”. We always listen to the patient and their preference with any technique we perform. We will always lighten the pressure we use if the patient prefers that.

Can I see a chiropractor if I have had back/neck surgery?

Yes! We treat many patients who have had previous spinal surgeries. We will use gentle techniques on that area or just avoid that area.
